In our last post we wrote about 5 of the 10 destinations predicted to be the most popular for British holiday makers to visit in 2013. The predictions were made by a travel agency at the start of the year.
Below are the second five of the top ten destinations they came up with. They are in no particular order and in no order of favoritism. Why not tell us where will you be going on holiday this year. Is your country of destination in this list? Why not let us know in comments.
Sri Lanka
It looks as though Sri Lanka is THE place to go in 2013. New flights from British Airways enable you to fly direct to Sri Lanka, and many people are predicted to combine the trip with a holiday in the Maldives.
If you love lazing around under the palm trees then the beautiful beach resorts of Sri Lanka are perfect. If sight seeing and culture is more your thing then it is easy to plan days out to visit tea plantations, ancient temples or elephant orphanages. The Sri Lankan people are hospitable and friendly people, and value for money here is very good. A recent Post Office survey showed that Sri Lanka is one of the cheapest destinations for Brits abroad so perhaps 2013 is the year that you should head there!
Thailand
If you are thinking of going long haul this year then Thailand is still one of the most affordable destinations, offering incredible value and a great variety of beach holidays, from busy, bustling and vibrant to quiet and calming.
With many new air routes being added from the UK this year, in 2013 Brits can access the holiday-friendly south west resorts more easily than ever before. Enjoy the stunning tropical beach resorts of Koh Samui, Koh Lak, Koh Phangan and Krabi, and make full use of the stunning places to visit – above and below the water! For temples, head on foot or by vehicle a short distance to be enthralled by ancient structures, or make your way under the waves to discover snorkeling with exotic fish, easily matching anything that Phuket or the Phi Phi Islands can offer.
Whilst you are in Thailand you also will be bowled over by the amazing food too, be it tropical fruits or fiery Thai curries, so make full use of the many wonderful restaurants.
The Algarve in Portugal
The Algarve in Portugal consistently draws the British to it in their thousands each year. Golf and tennis abound and sports lovers are well catered for. Spa lovers seek out the many hotels offering pampering facilities and families head to clean and pretty beach resorts. It is a reassuring, low cost, good quality destination.
In Portugal you can find party towns such as Albufeira, as well as quiet getaways like Olhos D’Agua and Sao Rafael. Fresh, daily caught sea food is a speciality and appears on almost all restaurant menus. It is close to the UK and there are many daily flights from a large choice of airports.
Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt in North Africa
After political unrest in recent years it would appear that Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt are back to being open for the tourism business, and this is a very good thing indeed! The best bet is to enjoy an all-inclusive holiday at one of the many lovely the beach resorts as all are operating safely now. Holiday makers are returning from North Africa telling of lots of deals in the resorts so grab a bargain whilst you can. It is unusual for the sun not to shine, so make sure you can cope with the intense heat in the peak months.
The Red Sea holiday resorts of the Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada regions in Egypt are full of hotels offering great prices, with most vacations including trips out snorkeling and diving amongst exotic fish and corals. Experiencing this underwater paradise is a must.
Agadir and Marrakech in Morocco give you a great combination of Arabic and African influences, and with a flying time of less than a trip to the Canary Islands, it really is an affordable way to experience a different culture. Discover the bazaars for bargains and haggle for a deal on some lovely and original gifts for yourself, your friends and your home.
In Tunisia you will find sandy beaches and excellent service. Experience a desert adventure and see movie locations used in such films as Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Tunisian island of Djerba has pure white sands and exclusive hotels where you can get away from it all. Here you can find paradise without spending a fortune!
Italy
Italy is blessed! Blessed with amazing food. Blessed with a plethora of historic sites. Blessed with fantastic beaches and blessed with some of the most incredible cities in the world.
If beaches are your thing, head to the classy Venice Lido, or the island of Sardinia, or perhaps the southern coasts of Calabria and Puglia. You can also take in the sun in the vibrant resorts of Sorrento and Amalfi on the Neapolitan Riviera.
For those wanting a city break, why not visit the classic destinations of Pisa, Venice, Florence, Milan or Rome, where you can enjoy culture, art and history, and of course shopping and fine dining in amazing restaurants.
Italy also has the beautiful island of Sicily where there are incredible views and a history full of color and excitement, or why not visit Tuscany for breathtaking scenery full of pretty villages and stunning countryside vistas. There are cheaper destinations in Europe, but few can compete with the magic of Italy!
